The simplest way to dice apples using only an apple peeler and a knife.

Have you ever wondered if you’re doing things the right way? I’m sure we all have! In this case, if you end up with chopped apples, you’re doing it right! But are you doing it the easiest way? Or the best way? Read on to find out!
Over the years, I have collected quite a few recipes that use diced apples. I even like cooked apples as a topping for my oatmeal. Since I feel like I’m dicing apples all the time, I needed to figure out the easiest way to do this.
There are a few gadgets that you can buy to dice apples. An apple peeler/corer/slicer, a dicer. I’m sure there’s more. But do you want to pull out a gadget each time you have oatmeal? Plus, I wanted to be able to decide what size my apples turn out. Some recipes benefit from a finer dice than what these gadgets give you.
For simplicity’s sake, I use a vegetable peeler and a knife. Most people have these 2 items easily accessible in a drawer.
Follow the step-by-step instructions below:
How to dice apples
- Start by washing and peeling your apple completely. I forgot to take a picture of this part, so you just have to imagine it.
- Make slices to desired width on first side of apple.

3. Turn apple completely around and slice the other side.

4. Cut remaining 2 sides into slices. The picture is misleading. It’s actually much easier to lay the apple flat while you cut these sides off.

5. Stack your slices and lay them with cut-side down. Cut small slice in half or thirds. Cut larger slices into similar width pieces.

6. Rotate apple slices or cutting board. Chop perpendicular to first cut.

7. Gather up those gorgeous apple pieces for your favorite recipe!
