- ½ cup butter, melted (1 stick)
- ⅔ cup cocoa powder (53 grams)
- 3 cups powdered sugar (360 grams)
- ⅓ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- black icing coloring
Mix melted butter and cocoa powder.
Stir in vanilla. Alternate adding a portion of powdered sugar and a portion of milk until all is added.
Beat on medium high for 1-2 minutes until light and fluffy.
Add a small amount of black icing coloring and stir until completely incorporated. Continue adding a bit at a time until desired color is achieved.
- Powdered sugar is also called confectioner's sugar.
- This frosting can be made with a wooden spoon and a bowl, but will be lighter and fluffier if beaten with an electric mixer at the end.
